Greenland Customs and Duty Regulations
When arriving to Greenland and leaving from Greenland travellers can purchase duty-free goods at the airports in Kangerlussuaq and Narsarsuaq.
Duty-free importation of goods to Greenland may only take place, if the traveller brings or purchases the goods when arriving to Greenland from abroad, including Denmark and the Faroe islands.
Product quantities
Duty-free importation only includes tha following total quantities:
- 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 cigarillos or 250 g of smoking tobacco
- 200 sheets of cigarette paper or cigarette wrappers
- 1 litre of spirits (over 22 percent alcohol per volume) or 2 litres of fortified wine (between 15 and 22 percent alcohol by volume)
- 2,25 litres of table wine (under 15 percent alcohol by volume)
- 2 litres of beer
- 2 litres of carbonated beverages
- 50 g of perfume and 250 ml of eau de toilette. In addition, cosmetics and other toilet articles up to a total value of DKK 1.000,-
- Up to 2 kilo of chocolate and sweets
- 1 kilo coffee or tea
- Up to 5 kilos of meat, meat products, or poultry
Further regulations
Duty-free tobacco products, beer, wine and spirits may only be imported by persons over 18 years of age.
Transport personnel arriving to Greenland after staying outside Greenland for less than 15 days cannot duty-free import the quantities listed above. For further information please contact the Customs Office.
It must be stressed that alcoholic beverages and tobacco products are NOT to be imported in quantities exceeding the quantities listed above. If goods imported exceed those quantities, it must be reported to the nearest Customs Office as soon as possible after entering the country for confiscation and for determination of possible fines.
Dutiable goods – except for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products – imported to Greenland exceeding the quantities listed above and other imported dutiable goods must be reported to the nearest Customs Office as soon as possible after entering the country for the settlement of duty. Offenters of present regulations are liable for fines.
